Federal Railroad Track Safety Standards Class

October 15-18, 2024

Never before has the railroad industry experienced such a great technological awakening as it has in recent times. New technology has forever changed the railroad industry – and will continue to do so. On the heels of these changes comes the retirement of highly qualified personnel. The result is few people remain to properly instruct, mentor, monitor and pass the knowledge and skills along to tomorrow’s workforce.

The Federal Railroad Track Safety Standards Class is an approved training program under the FRA’s Part 243. It helps satisfy the FRA-mandated knowledge, skill, and abilities required to perform a proper inspection for compliance with the Part 213 FRA Track Safety Standards. The training was developed and is presented by a former Federal Railroad Administration Track Safety Inspector, who has enforced the FRA Track Safety Standards for over 25 years culminating in a 50-year career within the railroad industry.

This class presents highly specialized training geared to new and existing Railroad Engineering employees. Learn why the FRA inspects, when the FRA inspects, what the FRA inspector looks for along with why they make specific decisions.  Why do they write FRA defects or violations? Does the railroad have recourse to an FRA violation? Get inside an FRA Inspectors mind through presentations, discussions and questions containing answers only an FRA Inspector can give. You’ll walk away knowing what the FRA looks for, why they inspect trackage and turnouts, and how they do it.

The FRA Track Safety Standards provides the railroad industry with guidelines to qualify a person with such responsibility and assure liability issues are covered. This class will help individuals achieve these guidelines. Students will gain specific knowledge, skills and abilities to aid in the demonstration of proficiency to their employer or track owner.
